Cold Finished Bars

Cold finished bars have a smooth scale free surface with precise dimension and straightness tolerances. These controls make it an ideal product for shafting components in precision machinery and screw machine stock. Cold finished bars are available in many grades but the most readily available are C1018 Cold Drawn rounds, flats, and squares (often referred to as key-stock) and C1045 Turned, Ground and Polished rounds.  They typically have good tensile and yield strengths and are easily machined.  Cold Finished bar tolerances are tight and only allow for undersize variation, making them a good fit with bearings.
